THE 3 PHASES OF CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT

Treatment room

Phase 1:

Upon entering our office our receptionist will greet you and welcome you as a member of our health- care family. They will ask several questions and determine if your case is private care, WCB or ICBC. They are willing to answer any questions you may have.

Consultation
Next you will have a consultation with Dr. Terry Warawa to discuss your health-related problems, concerns as well as potential treatment options. Dr. Warawa will ask many questions regarding your present and past health status. He will also ask questions regarding work, lifestyle and activities. Your first visit is designed for Dr. Warawa to learn about you, your condition and your expectations to determine whether chiropractic care can meet your goals. Patients are encouraged to ask questions at any point.

Examination
After your consultation, Dr. Warawa will perform a complete chiropractic examination including joint palpation, range of motion testing as well as other standard orthopaedic, neurological, postural and physical tests. Nothing will be done in our office without your consent. Dr. Warawa will explain what he is doing as he performs the examination.

X-ray Studies
Your specific condition may require us to refer you back to your medical doctor to take X-rays to get a full evaluation. X-rays help us rule out more serious conditions or assist us in developing the most effective treatment plan for you. Dr. Warawa follows a well-accepted criteria plan to determine if X-rays are necessary. If X-rays have already been taken, Dr. Warawa will obtain the written X-ray report.

Report of Findings
Once all the information and examinations have been performed, Dr. Warawa will give you a “report of findings” to answer the three most common questions:

1. Can you help me?
2. What do you recommend that I do to get better?
3. How long will it take?

After discussing with you your history and your goals, the examination of you condition and going over any X-ray or other tests, Dr.Terry Warawa will discuss recommendations with you. If you have a condition that requires care with other health practitioners, the doctor will tell you. If Dr. Warawa believes we can help you, we will recommend a treatment and wellness program.

Treatment
Patients will generally be provided with their first treatment at the conclusion of the first appointment. This may include spinal adjustments, physical therapies, and soft tissue therapies. Treatment is interactive with you, so you can express any concerns you may have about the treatment or style of the adjustments to ensure your comfort.

Phase 2: CorrecTIVE CARE

Teaming up for Optimal Health
Most chiropractors regard the elimination of symptoms as the easiest part of a person’s care. If all that the chiropractor does is to reduce the pain and stop there, the chances of the condition recurring are much greater. In order to prevent a rapid recurrence of the symptoms, it is necessary to continue receiving care even if your symptoms are gone.

During the correction/restorative phase of your care, you will not have to receive adjustments as often as you did in the first phase of care and, depending on your particular circumstances, you may begin doing exercises and stretches at home to help accelerate your healing.

Do not be discouraged if you have mild flare-ups in your symptoms on occasion. This is normal. Flare-ups are bound to happen during this phase because your body has not healed. Depending on the severity of your injury or condition and how long you have been suffering from it, this phase of your care may last anywhere from a few months to a couple of years.

Phase 3: Wellness Care

Once your body has fully healed, routine chiropractic care can help ensure that your physical problems do not return and that your body is kept in optimal condition. Just like continuing an exercise program and eating well sustains the benefits of exercise and a proper diet, it is necessary to continue chiropractic care to ensure the health of your musculoskeletal system.

When you make routine chiropractic care part of your lifestyle, you avoid many of the aches and pains that so many suffer through. Your joints last longer, and you will be able to engage in more of the activities you love.

If you’re suffering from acute pain, we suggest contacting our clinic today.
